Ten Generations of Burnells

First Generation

      1. Robert Burnell  was born about 1700.

I had thought that Robert might have been the son of William Burnell of Kirkgate, Leeds born in 1702.

However, I have now established that this Robert Burnell continued to live at Kirkgate, married, had

children and died in Kirkgate, so is not the same person. The most likely place for our Robert to have

been born is Shadwell, but the records for Thorner parish from this period are very damaged and

incomplete.

Robert married1  Jane Wiggin  daughter of Robert Wiggin and Elisabeth Beanlands on 23 Nov 1720 in All Saints Church, Harewood, Yorks. Jane was born2  in Wigton, Harewood, Yorks. She was christened3  on 22 Feb 1697 in All Saints Church, Harewood, Yorks.

Benjamin married Elizabeth. Elizabeth was born8  in 1741. She died9,10  on 27 Jul 1828 in Shadwell, Yorks. She was buried on 30 Jul 1828 in Thorner Parish Church.

5 M      iv. Abraham Burnell  was christened11,12  on 25 Mar 1730 in Thorner, Yorks. He died13  in 1804 in Chelsea, Middlesex.
